A valid tax exempt or reseller certificate can be applied to your account. Lulu adds the certificate.

For companies or institutions that are tax exempt, there are three ways to submit your Sales Tax Exemption Certificate.

Please note: A Lulu account must be created before submitting a sales tax exemption certificate.

  1. An email can be sent to purchaseorder@lulu.com with your certificate along with the email address of your account, your name and phone number, and if applicable, the order number.
  2. The certificate can be attached to a support case via our support page. Please choose the options Buying/My Order > Sales Tax Exemption.
  3. The certificate can be faxed to 919-459-5867 along with the email address of your account, your name and phone number, and if applicable, the order number.

A member of our accounting team will follow up via email once the sales tax exemption has been applied to the account.

Tips for customers placing exempt orders:

  • MUST have an exemption or resale certificate from the Ship-to State
  • Should include exempt Organization's Name in the Bill-to address
  • Some States require certificate on file BEFORE the order is placed

Drop-Shipping

Drop-shipping occurs when an author places an order on Lulu and ships it directly to their customer. Every state requires us to have a tax exempt form on file in order to not collect tax on an order shipped to that state. Each state has its own set of rules on what form is acceptable. Some states, for example, allow the seller to give us an out of state certificate. Some states require an exemption form filled out with an out of state exemption number on file. Other states require that seller to register for sales tax in order to use a resale certificate. We have included a link from Taxjar which may help you with what you need to know. We recommend that you seek assistance from a professional tax adviser.

As of 10/1/19, Lulu collects sales tax for orders delivered to ALL US states EXCEPT the following:

  • Alaska AK
  • Delaware DE
  • Mississippi MS
  • Montana MT
  • New Hampshire NH
  • North Dakota ND
